This is the third in a trilogy. The first two are reviewed here.
Written by Nancy Farmer and the conclusion to the trilogy about Jack, his friends, and his family doesn’t really feel like a conclusion. In fact, it feels like there should be another book, or a few more.
However, until the ending, it seems to start tying up a few loose ends and introducing more! We learn about the scandal of Father Severus and the mermaid. How it happened, and why it happened.
We learn a little more about Thorgil, which is always fun.
We get to hang out with Hazel and Pega, and watch while Jack tried to defend both to his parents when two horrible little girls torment them.
We meet a new brother of Thorgil’s and learn some interesting things about Olaf One-Brow when we do.
With the exception of the ending (unless she does write some more books about Jack and Thorgil), I’m pleased with the books and the way everything turned out. At some point in the future, I’ll probably buy my own copies and reread them.
So, if you haven’t already, get to your library and check them out! :-D
Quick note: Scheduled and rushed review.
