The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Sunday, November 28, 2010 - Book Reading

I won’t lie.  These books are still so fresh in my mind that I can’t bring myself to actually review them.  What I will do, though, is post the lyrics of the song Katniss sings in the third book.  I would love to hear this song put to music.  I know there are several version on YouTube, but I can’t seem to find one that fits the way I heard it in my head while reading.  Also, if you decide to search for a good version on YouTube, be prepared for some very painful vocals…

The Hunger Games Trilogy

Written by Suzanne Collins, the trilogy includes:

The Hanging Tree

Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we’d both be free.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

I first heard/learned/read about this trilogy at Bookmarked! I came across Blooey’s site while looking for a new bookmark (that story can be found here and here) and now I often go to her site and see what she’s posted.  I don’t often comment, but I enjoy reading her reviews.  :-D  She (and my brother, after he read the books) inspired me to read this trilogy.  I’m glad that I waited until all three books were out, though.  I would have gone nuts waiting for the next installment because they were that great!

Quick note: Scheduled and rushed review.

Occasionally Important Information:

“The Red Pyramid” by Rick Riordan
"Animal Farm" and "Fahrenheit 451"

I will probably reread them again before I do a “real” review. They were fantastic, though! I didn’t think I would enjoy them as much as I did… or cry, even. :-D
