Jumpstarting my "normal" sleep schedule…

Thursday night (to Friday morning) was my last overnight shift at work for a while.  Thank goodness!  I really enjoy working overnights, I do – quiet store, plenty of room to make a mess with no one to trip over it, and the best part is the ability to play my own music.  However, working nights means that my daytime plans are completely screwed.  I am getting into bed (or passing out in the tub) as +Jaime Terry is waking up, then I sleep pretty much until he gets off of work and the only time that I'm awake when at home is when he's also home.  Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my husband, but I don't love having to spend that time doing chores.

Another negative is that I'm not regularly on nights.  I could force my schedules to adjust and work well if I only worked nights, but I don't.  I work nights only a few times a year, and at most it's a week at a time, usually less.  This means that I barely have time to adjust to working nights unless it's a week-long stint – and then I only adjust on that last night or two.  So, yesterday morning when I got off work, I had "adjusted" to working nights.  Since it was my last night, I was determined to jumpstart my schedule back to normal.  I decided to sleep in the tub so that I would automatically wake up between 10a and 11a  (meaning between five and six hours of sleep).  I failed, though.  I slept in the tub until almost 1p – I did wake up around 11a, I think, but I passed right back out.  Then when I did get out of the tub, I sat down on the bed to put my socks on and just keeled over.  I managed to worm myself under the covers somehow and then slept until Jaime woke me up a little after 5p asking what I was doing for dinner.  I sort of nodded off again after we decided on pizza.  Around 6:15p, though, I was dressed and mostly awake, so I drove to Little Caesars to get pizza.  I had a little mini-adventure at a gas station on the way there, but that's a story for another day.

By the time I got back home, I was wide awake.  Driving with the windows down when it's nice and cool out (loving this weather) will do that to even the most tired person.  :-p  Jaime and I watched "The Walking Dead" through episode eight of season three while eating.  Then around 11p I took a quick bath/shower and washed my hair and we both crawled into bed.  I was awake until about 1a or so reading to myself, but I still managed to wake up for 5a.  Right now I'm at my mom's house watching my niece and nephew and I think I have successfully jumpstarted my sleep schedule.  Granted, I'm a day behind, but yay!  Sleepy-time should be on time tonight.

Also, the picture is from a book called "Go the F**k to Sleep."  An awesome and hilarious book that will be in my library even if I'm not willing to read it to children.  :-D  http://www.amazon.com/dp/1617750255/?tag=alydes-20

Alysha DeShaéWell, this whole site is pretty much about me. You can click the pretty "about me" link in the menu bar near the top of the page if you like, but everything on this site gives you some insight into my psyche. Good luck returning to normal. :-p
