Around noon on February 12, 2010, Jaime took Alysha to Greenoaks Memorial Park & Funeral Home, the cemetery where her maternal grandfather Marvin “Honey” Graham Chidester, Sr. is buried.

Knowing how much Honey meant to Alysha, Jaime decided to ask his permission to marry Alysha.  Naturally, Honey agreed; he had always wanted Alysha to be with someone who would love her forever.

Jaime asked Alysha if he could practice proposing with a ring that had belonged to his late grandmother.  She said okay.

Jaime got down almost on one knee; it had been snowing and raining earlier that day so they were actually standing in puddles of water.

He took his grandmother’s ring and said, “Will you marry me?”

Alysha said, “Of course,” and then giggled and turned to Honey’s headstone, “don’t worry, Honey, this isn’t the real ring.”

While Alysha was giggling, Jaime was struggling to take a ring box out of his pocket.  She noticed, but initially thought that it was a prank.  After all, he gave her a beautiful diamond necklace in a Sonic bag.

Jaime finally removed the box from his pocket and opened it.  Alysha gasped.

He smiled and said, “Will you marry me,” while he slipped the actual ring onto her finger.

Alysha had started to tear up, but managed to get out the word “yes” and then wrap her arms around him to hug him and tell him how much she loved him over and over again.
